Frequently asked questions about severance pay in Spain

A finiquito includes severance pay (indemnizacion), compensation for unused vacation days, and the proportional part of extra monthly payments (pagas extra). The severance amount depends on the type of dismissal.

Voluntary resignation: no severance. Objective dismissal: 20 days per year worked, capped at 12 months. Unfair dismissal (post-2012): 33 days per year worked, capped at 24 months.

Yes. Spanish workers are entitled to two extra monthly payments per year. When employment ends, the proportional part of the current year's extra pays is included in the finiquito.
