What is Verifactu?
Verifactu features
E-invoicing software that complies with Verifactu must guarantee the immediate generation of a record for every invoice issued and the secure delivery of that information to the Spanish Tax Agency (AEAT).
Is it mandatory for businesses and freelancers?
The obligation to implement Verifactu falls on e-invoicing software providers. Each freelancer or business can decide whether to voluntarily submit their invoices to the Tax Agency, with some exceptions.
Advantages and benefits
Verifactu adds security by reducing tax fraud, guarantees the authenticity of invoices, simplifies the verification process, speeds up paperwork and much more.
When does it come into force?
Under Royal Decree-Law 15/2025, the final dates are 1 January 2027 for companies subject to corporate income tax and 1 July 2027 for everyone else.

Frequently asked questions
Verifactu is an e-invoice verification system promoted by the Spanish Tax Agency to fight tax fraud and accelerate digitalisation. An e-invoice is a digital document that certifies a transaction. Every invoicing program, including Holded, must integrate Verifactu in order to be certified by the AEAT.
Invoices issued with Verifactu include a QR code with identifying data and the "Verifactu" reference that certifies the document was generated by a verifiable system. They are sent online to the Tax Agency in XML format, allow buyers to check the invoice through the QR code, and require a record of every invoice and event.
If your invoicing software does not comply with the Verifactu regulation, you can face a penalty of up to 50,000 euros per fiscal year in which the non-compliant program was used. The same applies if a certified piece of software is altered.
No. Once an invoice has been issued and sent through Verifactu, it cannot be edited or deleted. This guarantees its integrity and traceability. If there is an error, you must issue a corrective invoice, a cancellation record or a replacement. Holded lets you issue corrective invoices quickly and easily.
