Frequently asked questions about self-employment in Spain

New self-employed workers in Spain can benefit from a reduced Social Security quota of 80 EUR/month during their first 12 months (tarifa plana). After that, contributions increase based on your income bracket under the 2023 progressive system.

New autónomos can apply a reduced 7% IRPF withholding on their invoices during their first year of activity and the following two calendar years (up to 3 years total). After that, the standard 15% rate applies.

Common deductible expenses include office rent, supplies, professional services, phone and internet (proportional to business use), vehicle expenses (if business-related), professional training, and Social Security contributions. Keep all invoices as documentation.
